COMPRESSION STUDY 05
Behavioral Geometry

A compact volume defined by compression and balance.
The ottoman is formed as a stacked upholstered cylinder resting within a solid walnut base. Horizontal bands compress the soft volume into a controlled geometry, allowing the piece to read as structure rather than cushion.
The round form has no front or back, allowing placement freely within a space. Its low height and dense proportion give it visual weight while maintaining a soft presence.
The walnut plinth grounds the upholstery, separating the piece from the floor and providing a clear base to the form. The contrast between soft surface and rigid perimeter reinforces the object’s contained mass.
Seating is casual and adaptable — used as stool, footrest, or secondary perch. The density encourages brief occupation rather than lounging.
Designed as a spatial counterpoint — a small anchor that stabilizes larger seating arrangements.
