POSTURE STUDY 04

Behavioral Geometry

behavioral geometry walnut channel tufted lounge chair

A seated form held between structure and softness.

The chair is defined by two carved walnut planes that hold a continuous upholstered interior. The channels run vertically from seat to back, allowing the body to settle naturally while maintaining a precise silhouette. The sides act as boundaries, containing the softer interior volume.

The walnut panels are hand-shaped and softened along their edges so the structure feels supportive rather than rigid. Beneath, a recessed metal base lifts the chair slightly from the floor, visually separating the weight of the wood from the ground.

Each upholstered channel is individually formed and compressed to maintain definition over time. The rhythm of the spacing distributes pressure across the back and seat, encouraging an upright but relaxed posture. Sitting feels supported without enclosure, structured comfort suited for conversation rather than lounging.

Designed as an individual counterpart to the larger seating forms, a contained personal space within the same architectural language.
