LOUNGE STUDY 02

Behavioral Geometry

behavioral geometry walnut channel tufted sofa

A continuous seating surface shaped as a single flowing landscape.

Rather than separate cushions, the sofa is formed as one uninterrupted upholstered field. The channels move from seat to back without break, allowing the eye to travel across the piece as a rhythm instead of stopping at parts. The low profile keeps the volume grounded while the extended length establishes presence in the room.

The ends are wrapped in hand-shaped walnut panels that cap the upholstery and define the outer boundary of the form. The wood acts as a structural edge — containing the compression of the channels and giving the piece a clear silhouette from every perspective.

Each channel is individually formed and layered to maintain shape while allowing gradual softening with use. The consistent spacing distributes weight across the entire seating surface, allowing multiple seating positions rather than fixed seats.

Sitting does not place the body in a single position; it allows shifting, reclining, and gathering. The surface supports a range of postures, encouraging shared use rather than assigned seating.

Designed as a social object — a seating form that reads as architecture when empty and adapts to people when occupied.
