RECLINE STUDY 01

Behavioral Geometry

behavioral-geometry-walnut-chaise-lounge-ivory-upholstery

A continuous reclining form suspended within its own structure.

The chaise is defined by a single uninterrupted gesture — a low sweeping arc that lifts the body gradually from rest to recline. Rather than reading as frame and cushion, the piece behaves as one volume: upholstery set into a carved structure so the silhouette remains precise from every angle. The elevated center span creates a sense of suspension, allowing the form to hover lightly despite its mass.

The frame is hand-shaped from solid walnut and engineered as a structural curve. Like a bridge, strength comes from the arc itself — weight is carried outward through the legs instead of downward through bulk. This allows the center of the chaise to remain visually open while maintaining rigidity.

Upholstery is laid in structured horizontal channels that follow the recline of the body. Each section is individually formed and compressed to hold its shape over time while maintaining a tailored surface.

The body settles gradually into the chaise rather than dropping into it. Support increases toward the lumbar and shoulder area, allowing extended reclining without adjustment. The suspension of the frame creates a subtle buoyancy — supported without heaviness.

Designed as a reclining object that organizes a room — a structural gesture that reads as sculpture when unoccupied and seating when used.
